Luton's Health Hive
Community Interest Luton launched the Luton Health Hive in September 2022, which gives men and women from Luton – aged over 50 – the opportunity to take part in an organised outdoor exercise activities with support and guidance from local healthcare professionals. It’s a chance to do something positive for their body, mind and confidence.
This initiative is managed in collaboration with Total Well-being Luton, Medics PCN and local GPs. The activity takes place in conjunction with the local Park Run every Saturday. The aim is for people to complete 5km by following a structured programme to help improve their fitness each week. For many even a 5km walk may seem unachievable at first, but trained fitness instructors, working with local GPs will develop individual fitness plans for each participant to ensure everyone is exercising safely but at a level that will bring both physical and mental health benefits.
The GP surgeries will be referring their patients to the Health Hive project and the GPs themselves will be volunteering every Saturday to help mentor and motivate participants. There are also other volunteers assisting to ensure people feel confident to take part and that they have a ‘buddy’ to accompany them while completing their 5km route.
If you would like to participate, please feel free to attend every Saturday at Wardown Park, 9am
